José Rodriguez Carballo OFM re-elected as Minister General

Friar José is the 119th successor of St. Francis of Assisi and will lead the 15,000 members of the Order who live in 113 countries. On the following day, the 152 representatives met once again and elected Friar Michael Perry, OFM as the Vicar General of the Order. He had previously served as the Minister Provincial of the Province of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus in St. Louis, Missouri (USA).
On June 6, 2009, the capitulars continued their deliberations and elected the following friars to serve as the General Definitors of the Order: Friar Vincent Mduduzi Zungu from Central Africa; Friar Paskalis Bruno Syukur from Indonesia; Friar Francis Walter from the USA; Friar Roger Marchal from France; Friar Vicente-Emilio Felipe Tapia from Spain; Friar Vincenzo Brocanelli from Italy; Friar Ernest Karol Siekierka from Poland; Friar Nestor Inácio Schwerz from Brazil and Friar Julio César Bunader from Argentina.
As is the custom, each of these councilors will be responsible for a specific region of the world and assist the Minister General in the governance of the Order.
The members are now continuing their meetings and discussing the various aspects of the Order’s activities including formation, missionary evangelization, fraternal life and prayer, dialogue with the world and cooperation with the laity.
